New franchise brings back CPL to Jamaica in 2026

After a prolonged six-year hiatus, the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is officially set to make a triumphant return to Jamaica during the 2026 season. Organizers have confirmed that a brand-new franchise based on the island will be introduced, guaranteeing four exciting fixtures at the historic Sabina Park. The tournament has not visited Jamaica since 2019, following the departure of the Jamaica Tallawahs, who relocated to Antigua and rebranded before the 2024 campaign.

This significant revival stems from successful negotiations between league officials and Jamaican government bodies, including the ministries responsible for culture, sport, and tourism. Pete Russell, the CPL’s Chief Executive Officer, expressed immense enthusiasm regarding this agreement. He emphasized Jamaica’s unique atmosphere and deep-rooted cricketing history as vital assets. Russell noted that restoring a local team and bringing live games back to Sabina Park answers the long-standing demands of passionate supporters, marking a truly pivotal chapter for regional cricket.
