Real Madrid between Courtois' return and injury crisis before El Clasico

Thibaut Courtois is expected to return for Real Madrid ahead of the upcoming El Clásico against Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo, offering a major boost as the Belgian enters the final phase of his recovery. Courtois has been out since suffering a right‑thigh muscle injury in the Champions League tie against Manchester City, an absence that coincided with a difficult run of results: only two wins in seven matches.

Madrid, however, continue to face significant injury concerns. Kylian Mbappé has been ruled out with a muscle problem, while Éder Militão has undergone surgery that will sideline him for around five months. Mbappé still hopes to feature in the 10 May clash, though his availability will depend on his progress in the coming days.

Courtois’ imminent return is viewed as crucial, with his performances earlier in the season repeatedly preventing heavier defeats during periods of inconsistency for the team.
