Reports in Spain suggest Marc Márquez has asked Ducati for a one‑year contract extension with a rider‑controlled option, allowing him to keep his future open for 2028. Ducati made retaining the 2025 world champion a priority last winter, and Márquez repeatedly described the team as his preferred destination. However, he also admitted he needed time to assess his physical condition. The opening races of the season highlighted lingering issues, with Márquez acknowledging after Austin that his right arm lacked the strength required to be explosive early in races.
Earlier this year he said he would sign a two‑year deal if his shoulder improved, but recent struggles appear to have shifted his stance. Journalist Ricard Jovè told Mundo Deportivo that the proposed 1+1 structure reflects both fitness uncertainty and the desire to ensure Ducati remain competitive in 2027. Such flexibility, he argued, would give Márquez full control should performance or health decline.
