Ghana appoint Queiroz to lead Black Stars at the 2026 World Cup

Ghana have turned to experienced Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz to guide the Black Stars at the 2026 World Cup, the national federation announced on Monday. The seventy‑three‑year‑old, whose résumé includes a spell at Real Madrid and two periods as Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant at Manchester United, now takes charge of his ninth national side and prepares for his fourth World Cup. He replaces Otto Addo, dismissed two weeks ago following a 2‑1 friendly defeat to Germany.

The federation said Queiroz will begin work immediately to prepare the squad for the tournament starting on June eleven, without specifying the length of his contract. Queiroz previously led Portugal at the 2010 World Cup and guided Iran at the 2018 and 2022 editions, while also coaching UAE, South Africa, Colombia, Egypt, Qatar and Oman. Ghana face England, Croatia and Panama in Group L at a World Cup co‑hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
