CSA probes Swanepoel after walk‑off controversy in domestic final

Cricket South Africa has launched a formal investigation into Beyers Swanepoel after the all‑rounder abandoned the Lions during the closing stages of Sunday’s 50‑over final to board a flight for England. The 27‑year‑old, who had signed with Worcestershire for the County Championship, exited around the 43rd over and headed straight to the airport, prompting CSA to deny him a no‑objection certificate and charge him with bringing the game into disrepute. Swanepoel now faces two separate disciplinary processes, one from CSA and another from the Lions, and is not expected to contest the allegations.

CSA confirmed the incident was reported by the match referee and stressed that no conclusions will be drawn before the inquiry is complete. If no agreement is reached, Swanepoel may be forced to relinquish his NOC and return home, while choosing to remain abroad could effectively end his domestic prospects in South Africa.
