Jardim’s Flamengo shines in derby win over Botafogo

Flamengo delivered their most cohesive performance yet under Leonardo Jardim, beating Botafogo 3–0 at the Nilton Santos and showcasing a clear tactical evolution. In just his third match, the Portuguese coach has built a compact, disciplined side that concedes almost nothing; Botafogo created only harmless long‑range attempts, while Flamengo completed a third straight clean sheet.

Offensively, the team also progressed, pairing 58% possession with far greater efficiency, converting three of 18 shots. Samuel Lino opened the scoring early, and Pedro struck moments into the second half, both goals reflecting Jardim’s influence. Léo Pereira added a superb free‑kick before the interval, ending a long drought from set pieces. With Barboza sent off, Flamengo controlled the tempo and introduced players yet to feature under the new coach. Lino and Pedro, previously struggling, have flourished, with the striker earning a goal, a decisive foul and the red card. Jardim’s early work suggests a promising new direction.
