Corinthians have officially parted ways with head coach Fernando Diniz after a damaging run of seven consecutive league defeats. The decision followed a 2-1 loss to Internacional, a result that left the Sao Paulo club in 16th place and only one position above the relegation zone.
Diniz leaves after six months at the helm, having managed 33 matches across all competitions. During that period, he recorded 13 victories, eight draws and 12 defeats, a return that ultimately failed to meet expectations at one of Brazil’s biggest clubs.
The disappointing league campaign was compounded by quarter-final eliminations in both the Copa do Brasil and the Copa Libertadores. Corinthians’ continental journey ended against Argentine side Estudiantes de La Plata.
Off-field issues also complicated Diniz’s tenure, including reported dressing-room tensions linked to Memphis Depay’s contract situation. Despite this setback, Diniz remains best known for leading Fluminense to Copa Libertadores glory in 2023, before later taking charge of Brazil on an interim basis.
