Jacob Bridgeman survived an intense test of nerves to capture his first PGA Tour title at the Genesis Invitational on February 22. Although the 26-year-old American began Sunday with a dominant six-shot cushion that quickly grew to seven, his advantage slowly disintegrated at the famous Riviera Country Club.
Bridgeman managed only two early birdies before grinding out a one-over 72. His 18-under aggregate of 266 narrowly defeated Rory McIlroy and Kurt Kitayama, who finished tied for second just one stroke behind. McIlroy carded a 67, while Kitayama surged into contention with a 64. Veteran Adam Scott also shone, shooting a 63 to take fourth. Bridgeman, who previously fired consecutive 64s, confessed he anticipated a smoother coronation. However, a critical bogey at the 16th reduced his margin to one. Ultimately, he successfully sank a tense par putt on the 72nd hole to secure the trophy, proving his resilience under immense pressure.
