Chippa Utd confirm exit of Nigeria international goalkeeper Nwabali

Chippa United have confirmed that goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is leaving the club after he formally submitted a request for his release. Although the 29-year-old’s desire to depart was previously known, the announcement’s timing outside the transfer window raises complex questions regarding his free agency status, unless the deal was concluded during January.

In a statement, the Betway Premiership side acknowledged Nwabali’s request and approved his immediate exit, thanking him for his dedicated professionalism and service since joining in 2022. The club wished him great success in all future endeavours.

Nwabali’s exploits at Chippa earned him the number one spot for Nigeria’s Super Eagles at successive Africa Cup of Nations finals. This connection famously sparked controversy when the club supported Nigeria against South Africa.

Departing with 76 total appearances, including 12 this season, Nwabali’s exit forces Chippa to rely on Dumisani Msibi and Elson Sithole for the remainder of the campaign.
