With Fabio Quartararo reportedly departing for Honda, Yamaha has moved quickly to secure a top-tier replacement: Jorge Martin. Motorsport Spain reports that the 2024 World Champion is finalizing a two-year agreement with the Iwata factory beginning in 2027.
Martin’s relationship with Aprilia has been troubled. His 2025 campaign was disastrous, ruined by continuous injuries that nullified his impact. Although "Martinator" considered leaving before committing to 2026, lingering underlying tensions and Yamaha’s highly lucrative financial package seemingly prompted this high-profile switch.
Aprilia CEO Massimo Rivola implicitly confirmed the situation during the RS-GP26 presentation. He admitted doubts regarding their future collaboration, citing Martin's physical struggles and "significant offers from Japanese manufacturers." If confirmed, Aprilia must soon decide whether to sign another star or a young talent to partner with Marco Bezzecchi, while Martin prepares himself for his next major career challenge.
