Pavan Rathnayake has been recalled to Sri Lanka's T20I squad for the three-match series against England following his brilliant 121 off 115 balls in the recent ODI. Although previously omitted, the 23-year-old’s performance successfully reopened selection doors to the squad. Conversely, fast bowler Nuwan Thushara, all-rounder Kamindu Mendis, and legspinner Dushan Hemantha were excluded. Thushara, a regular presence, was dropped after several modest outings.
The spin attack features Dunith Wellalage alongside Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga. Seamers Eshan Malinga and Pramod Madushan join Dushmantha Chameera and Matheesha Pathirana, while specialist Kusal Perera returns to the batting unit.
As co-hosts, Sri Lanka faces a final test before the T20 World Cup begins officially on February 7. The board has until January 31 to finalize their tournament roster without requiring special ICC permission. Consequently, this England series remains crucial for determining the final composition of the national team for the upcoming tournament.
