Manchester City’s squad have agreed to reimburse all fans who made the trip to the Arctic Circle to witness their 3-1 Champions League defeat to Bodo/Glimt. The decision was confirmed in a statement issued through the team’s leadership group of Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, Rodri and Erling Haaland.
“Our supporters mean everything to us,” the players said. “We know the sacrifice that our fans make when they travel across the world to support us home and away and we will never take it for granted.”
Erling Haaland admitted after the game that the performance was “embarrassing,” as Bodo/Glimt convincingly outplayed Pep Guardiola’s side.
Many travelling fans had endured freezing conditions after connecting through Oslo to reach the northern Norwegian city of Bodo.
City’s gesture, covering a total of £9,357 in ticket refunds, aims to acknowledge the loyal support shown despite the team’s recent struggles.
