Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir has staunchly defended Babar Azam, asserting that there is “no doubt” he remains a premier player. This support arrives as Azam faces persistent scrutiny regarding his prolonged form slump.
Despite struggling for consistency, the 31-year-old has recently displayed resilience. Against South Africa, he managed decent contributions in Tests and T20Is, although he faltered during the ODI matches. However, Azam silenced critics during the subsequent ODI series against Sri Lanka, accumulating 165 runs and registering his first international century since August 2023.
Witnessing this resurgence, Amir reiterated his confidence in the Lahore native’s batting class, telling Cricket Pakistan, “Babar is a big player.” Azam continued his steady output in the T20I tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. Currently representing the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League, he has scored 69 runs across three innings, further suggesting that the experienced batter is gradually rediscovering his devastating touch.
