Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has offered key advice to Max Verstappen after the Dutchman received a 10-second penalty and three penalty points for colliding with George Russell at Turn 5 during the Spanish Grand Prix. Wolff, a known admirer of Verstappen, acknowledged the Red Bull driver’s immense talent but stated he went too far in this incident. 

Verstappen, clearly frustrated post-race, later admitted on social media that his move on Russell was “not right.” This marks Verstappen’s first major incident since clashing with Lando Norris in Mexico City last year. Wolff emphasized a common pattern among elite athletes across sports—struggling to accept mistakes. He added that while Verstappen thrives under pressure, he must remember the world is not against him. Despite the clash, Wolff reaffirmed his respect for Verstappen as one of F1’s all-time greats.
