Italian clubs suffer historic Champions League clean sweep

Italian football endured a miserable Champions League round as all four Serie A representatives suffered defeat, recording the first clean sweep of losses for the country’s clubs in a single matchday.

Inter fell 4-3 to Club Brugge at San Siro, while Napoli were beaten 3-1 by Villarreal. Como suffered a 3-2 defeat away to Feyenoord, and Roma lost 4-3 against Real Madrid after surrendering their advantage. The four matches produced 14 goals conceded and nine scored by the Italian sides. Three clubs also experienced the frustration of losing after taking the lead.

Inter and Napoli face particular pressure, having collected no points from their opening two fixtures. Roma must regroup after their late collapse against Madrid, while Como retain three points thanks to their opening 4-1 victory over Leipzig.

The results highlight a difficult European campaign for Italy’s representatives, who now face increased pressure to respond in the upcoming rounds.
