Courtois still stands tall as Real Madrid’s ultimate safety net

Thibaut Courtois continues to demonstrate why he remains one of world football’s most reliable goalkeepers. While Real Madrid have struggled for consistency at the back during the opening weeks of the campaign, the Belgian international has repeatedly stepped up with decisive interventions.

Across La Liga and the Champions League, Courtois has faced 37 shots on target in his first eight appearances, conceding only nine goals. His average of 4.6 saves per match is the highest recorded at this stage of a season since joining the Spanish giants.

The 34-year-old has successfully stopped 28 attempts, maintaining a strong save rate despite being exposed to far more pressure than in previous years. Although his save percentage has been higher in earlier campaigns, the sheer volume of work makes his current performances particularly impressive.

Real Madrid may still be vulnerable defensively, but Courtois remains a dependable presence. So far, he has registered one clean sheet, in a convincing 4-0 victory against Malaga.
