Porto and Manchester City spilled beyond the pitch

Manchester City opened their Champions League campaign with a convincing 2-0 win in Porto, but the match’s intensity exploded off the field. Tensions rose late in the first half when Porto’s players and staff furiously protested Marc Guehi’s heavy challenge on Gabri Veiga, demanding a red card. Moments later, they called for a second booking for Josko Gvardiol, further inflaming the atmosphere.

According to A Bola, the unrest carried into the tunnel at halftime. City defender Ruben Dias confronted Porto coach Francesco Farioli, prompting club officials from both sides to intervene. Security staff and referee Szymon Marciniak were forced to step in to prevent the dispute from escalating.

After the match, City manager Enzo Maresca criticised Porto’s bench, insisting his own staff remained calm throughout. Farioli countered by suggesting key refereeing decisions could have gone differently but urged his team to refocus on their upcoming league fixture.
