Hull stun Manchester United with historic 2–0 victory

Hull City produced a remarkable upset by defeating Manchester United 2–0 on the opening day of the Premier League season, ending a 52‑year wait for a win against the Red Devils. The newly promoted Tigers delivered a near‑perfect first half, striking through Semi Ajayi after 17 minutes before Mendy doubled the lead at the 38‑minute mark. The MKM Stadium erupted as Hull’s players celebrated a result that felt like a landmark triumph.

United entered the match as clear favourites and hoped to set the tone for an ambitious campaign, but Michael Carrick’s side struggled throughout. Even the introductions of Marcus Rashford and Benjamin Sesko failed to shift momentum, leaving United with a damaging psychological blow at the season’s start.

The defeat also marked the first time in club history that United lost an opening‑day fixture to a newly promoted team. Hull, meanwhile, sent a powerful message in their fight for survival.
