Colombia finally edge Ghana to reach last 16

Colombia booked their place in the World Cup last 16 with a controlled 1-0 win over Ghana in Kansas City, ending the Black Stars’ tournament. Both sides suffered early setbacks as Córdoba and Senaya departed injured within minutes, but Colombia adapted quickest. Substitute Luis Suárez delivered a precise cross to the back post, where Jhon Arias arrived unmarked to steer home the opener. Ghana, usually defensively solid, struggled badly in the first half and failed to register a shot on target, while Colombia threatened through Díaz and Mojica, with Ati‑Zigi producing a superb save to keep his team alive.

Ghana improved after the break but lacked cutting edge, repeatedly running into Colombia’s disciplined backline. Puerta and Díaz went close to doubling the lead, though the offside flag denied the latter. Despite late pressure, Ghana never found a breakthrough, allowing Colombia to advance and leaving the Black Stars eliminated after another defeat to South American opposition.
