Switzerland cruise past Algeria to reach next round

Switzerland secured a calm and efficient 2-0 victory over Algeria to reach the next stage and end the Fennecs’ World Cup campaign. Algeria started brightly and should have gone ahead when Houssem Aouar found space in the box, but his effort drifted wide. Switzerland punished that miss almost immediately. Johan Manzambi burst to the byline and squared for Breel Embolo, who tapped in his second goal of the tournament with Switzerland’s first shot.

Clear chances were scarce for the rest of the half. Denis Zakaria headed narrowly over, while Gregor Kobel comfortably handled Fares Chaibi’s attempt. Algeria’s best moment came when Ibrahim Maza fired wide before the interval.

Within seconds of the restart, a poor Algerian clearance fell to Dan Ndoye, who drilled home from 15 yards to double the lead. From there, Switzerland controlled proceedings, even missing a late chance through Fabian Rieder, and extended their unbeaten run to seven matches.
