Russell triumphs in Austria, Verstappen and Antonelli in a thriller

George Russell claimed his second win of the season with a tense Austrian Grand Prix victory, edging Max Verstappen and championship leader Kimi Antonelli in a gripping finale. The Mercedes driver now moves to second in the standings, 41 points behind Antonelli, while Oscar Piastri finished fourth. Russell controlled much of the race but came under heavy pressure from Verstappen, who surged forward from fifth, and Antonelli, seeking redemption after his Spanish retirement. Their late duel produced a thrilling 0.5‑second gap at the flag.

Ferrari endured a difficult afternoon despite strong qualifying. Lewis Hamilton slipped to fifth after early battles with Verstappen and reported power issues, while Charles Leclerc faded to eighth following a defensive, troubled run. Aston Martin’s woes continued with Alonso’s penalty and Stroll’s retirement, and Williams lost Carlos Sainz to a battery failure. Cadillac suffered a double DNF as Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez retired early with overheating problems.
