Bucks’ era over as Giannis leaves the last title core behind

Five years after Milwaukee’s unforgettable 2021 title run, the last remnants of that championship core have officially vanished. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis, the final two survivors of the roster, departed in a blockbuster trade that sent both to the Miami Heat, closing a historic chapter for the Bucks. Khris Middleton had already left for Dallas earlier in 2026, while Brook Lopez moved to the Clippers and Jrue Holiday eventually landed in Portland after the Damian Lillard trade chain. Pat Connaughton joined Charlotte in 2025, and Donte DiVincenzo found stability with Minnesota following several stops.

Thanasis Antetokounmpo now faces an uncertain future as his contract expires. Other role players scattered across the league or overseas, from Sam Merrill’s success in Cleveland to Torrey Craig’s global journey. Several key veterans have since retired, including PJ Tucker, Jeff Teague, and DJ Augustin. With Giannis gone, Milwaukee’s championship identity belongs fully to the past.
