England overpower Croatia in six‑goal World Cup opener

England launched their World Cup campaign with a pulsating 4–2 win over Croatia, a match defined by chaos, quality and relentless attacking intent. Harry Kane opened the scoring from a retaken penalty after Livaković stepped off his line, but Croatia struck back through a stunning long‑range effort from Martin Baturina. England regained control when Kane powered in a header from a Rice corner, only for Croatia to level again before the break as Musa finished a slick move involving Pašalić and Perišić.

The second half belonged to England. Jude Bellingham restored the lead with a composed solo finish after driving through midfield, shifting momentum decisively. Tuchel’s side created chance after chance, repeatedly denied by Livaković’s outstanding saves. Croatia nearly equalised again, but Pickford’s sharp reflex stop kept England ahead.

Marcus Rashford finally sealed the result late on, converting Saka’s precise pass to secure three vital points and a statement opening performance.
