De la Fuente confirms Yamal fit for Spain’s opener

Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has confirmed that Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams and Victor Munoz are on track to be available for the national team’s World Cup opener against Cape Verde on 15 June. Speaking in Puebla, where Spain are preparing for their final warm‑up match against Peru, De la Fuente said the trio are “meeting their recovery targets” after remaining in Chattanooga for specialised training. He cautioned, however, that while all three should be fit to play, starting them is “more complicated,” with their minutes likely to be managed.

The rest of the squad trained normally ahead of Monday’s friendly in Puebla, located 130 kilometres south of Mexico City. Spain will return to Mexico later in the tournament for their third group match against Uruguay on 26 June in Guadalajara. Yamal, Williams and Munoz all sat out the final session before the Peru match but are expected to rejoin the group shortly.
