Mendis takes charge as Sri Lanka name squads for West Indies tour

Kusal Mendis has been appointed Sri Lanka’s white‑ball captain for the upcoming tour of West Indies, taking over the ODI and T20I leadership from Charith Asalanka and Dasun Shanaka. Mendis, who previously led the ODI side in 17 matches, will guide a squad strengthened by several notable returns. Wanindu Hasaranga is back after the hamstring injury that ruled him out of the 2026 T20 World Cup and IPL, while Eshan Malinga, currently Sunrisers Hyderabad’s leading wicket‑taker, is set for a national comeback following a shoulder issue. Dushmantha Chameera also re-enters the ODI setup after missing January’s England series.

In Tests, Nishan Madushka, Ramesh Mendis and Lahiru Kumara have all been recalled. Lasith Croospulle returns to the T20I squad for the first time since 2023, with Binura Fernando and Nuwan Thushara also included. Sri Lanka will play three ODIs, three T20Is and two Tests, departing for the Caribbean on May 26.
