Sixers weigh Quentin Grimes’ future amid role uncertainty

Quentin Grimes has become one of Philadelphia’s most delicate offseason questions, largely because his 2025–26 campaign failed to deliver the breakout many expected. After accepting the qualifying offer following a difficult free agency, he hoped to build on the promise shown late in the previous season. Instead, as noted by Adam Aaronson, he settled into the profile of a steady rotation piece rather than a long‑term cornerstone. The Sixers must now decide how he fits alongside Kelly Oubre Jr., whose experience and likely cheaper deal contrast with Grimes’ youth and shooting upside. Philadelphia can exceed the cap using Grimes’ Bird rights, giving the front office flexibility once other roster priorities are addressed.

The unresolved issue is Grimes’ own interest in staying. Last summer’s stalled negotiations and a limited path to greater responsibility behind Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe complicate matters. With Daryl Morey gone, the new leadership must determine whether Grimes’ development aligns with its vision.
