Hume hails “indescribable” achievement as Sunderland clinch EL spot

Trai Hume admitted he struggled to capture the emotion of Sunderland’s historic Europa League qualification after scoring in Sunday’s decisive victory at the Stadium of Light. The Northern Ireland international was among the key performers as the home crowd roared the team to a landmark achievement, completing a season in which Sunderland defied widespread doubts following their promotion to the Premier League. Hume said the squad had “worked their socks off” all year and took pride in proving critics wrong.

Having joined from Linfield in 2022, when Sunderland were still in League One, Hume reflected on a “whirlwind journey” that has taken the club from the third tier to European football in just four years. He praised the fans’ unwavering support and credited the owner, staff and players for the club’s transformation. Looking ahead, Hume stressed the importance of continual improvement in each transfer window as Sunderland prepare for their first European campaign in decades.
