Maradona's historic shirt sold for 400,000 Euros

The shirt worn by Diego Maradona in the 1986 World Cup semi‑final has been sold for €400,000 during an auction featuring items collected by former Belgium goalkeeper Jean‑Marie Pfaff. The jersey comes from Argentina’s 2‑0 victory over Belgium in Mexico, a match decided by two Maradona goals. Pfaff exchanged shirts with the Argentine captain after the final whistle and kept the piece for nearly four decades before offering it through a French auction house.

Initial estimates valued the shirt between €350,000 and €400,000, and it ultimately reached the top end of that range. Another standout item was the jersey Pfaff swapped with Johan Cruyff during his 1976 international debut, which fetched €130,000, boosted by Cruyff’s handwritten dedication. The auction also included Harald Schumacher’s shirt for €35,000, the official ball from the 1982 World Cup final for €33,000, rare Uruguay 1930 documents, and two Zinedine Zidane shirts sold for €19,000 and €13,000.
