Gattuso emerges as leading candidate for Lazio job

Gennaro Gattuso has been identified as a strong contender to replace Maurizio Sarri at Lazio, with reports in Italy suggesting the club is preparing for a managerial change. Sarri is believed to be finalising a move to Atalanta after growing frustrated with several issues in Rome, including tensions with president Claudio Lotito, fan boycotts, a transfer ban and the sale of players without his approval. His expected contract in Bergamo would run for two years with an option for a third, worth around three million euros plus bonuses.

According to Football Italia, Lazio view Gattuso as a surprising but credible successor following his departure from the Italian national team after failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. The club is also considering alternatives, including Atalanta coach Raffaele Palladino, which could trigger wider managerial changes, and Fabio Pisacane, should he leave Cagliari after his first Serie A season. Lazio’s bench is set for a significant shake‑up.
