Denmark has formally presented an ambitious plan to join the Formula 1 calendar, proposing a major redevelopment of the Padborg circuit in the country’s southern region. The project, led by investors Henrik Lyngbye Pedersen and Mathias Lyngbye Villadsen, carries a budget of €510 million and would expand the venue to six kilometres with a capacity of 100,000 spectators, making it the largest circuit not only in Denmark but in all of Northern Europe. Designed by Wurz Design, the firm owned by former Austrian driver Alexander Wurz, the proposed “Circuit of Denmark” would also include motocross and karting facilities, hotels and conference spaces.
Its location near the German and Dutch borders is seen as a strategic advantage, according to Viaplay and TV3 Sport commentator Jens Hansen. While Formula 1 has not issued any official confirmation, project director Rebecca Palmberg Steele stated that the circuit is being developed to meet full Grade 1 standards required for hosting a Grand Prix.
