Neuer extends Bayern stay through 2027

Manuel Neuer has signed a one‑year contract extension with Bayern Munich, keeping the veteran goalkeeper at the club until 2027 and marking his 16th season with the German champions. The 40‑year‑old said the decision came after careful reflection, adding that Bayern still possess the quality to challenge any opponent. Widely regarded as one of the greatest keepers in history, Neuer remains the most recent goalkeeper to finish in the Ballon d’Or top three, placing behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in 2014.

Reports in Germany suggest he will gradually reduce his workload next season to support the transition of understudy Jonas Urbig, while Bayern have also renewed Sven Ulreich for another year. Neuer retired from international duty in 2024 after earning 124 caps but continues to shine at club level, highlighted by his man‑of‑the‑match display in the Champions League quarter‑final at Real Madrid. His Bayern career includes two Champions League titles and a record thirteen Bundesliga crowns.
