MotoGP to scrap all wildcards from 2027

The Grand Prix Commission has approved a series of regulation updates following its March and April 2026 meetings, introducing changes that will take effect either immediately or from the 2027 season. Among the most significant decisions is the complete removal of wildcard entries in MotoGP, a measure that will apply regardless of a manufacturer’s ranking and will officially come into force in 2027. The ruling marks a major shift in the championship’s competitive structure, eliminating a long‑standing avenue for teams to test riders or new developments during race weekends.

The Commission also clarified that 850cc machines, which will debut under the new technical regulations in 2027, cannot be used as wildcards in MotoGP during 2026. As a result, the upcoming season will not feature any of the next‑generation prototypes within the Grand Prix paddock. The decision aims to maintain regulatory consistency ahead of the transition to the new era of machinery.
