New Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz says leading the Black Stars at the 2026 World Cup will be the biggest challenge of his long career. Speaking at his first press conference in Accra, the Portuguese veteran said he feels honoured to take charge of a nation with high expectations and a passionate fan base. Queiroz, who has coached Portugal, Iran, Egypt and Colombia, stressed that Ghana demand only one thing: to win.
He highlighted the need to instil a strong mentality and create cohesion within a talented but inconsistent squad. With Ghana opening their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, Queiroz acknowledged the limited preparation time but expressed confidence in the country’s depth. He insisted that selection will be based on merit, emphasising that “nobody owns the national team shirt”. Beyond the tournament, he outlined a long‑term plan to develop future generations and turn Ghana into a nation of champions.
