New York's teen spirit frustrates Messi, Miami

Inter Miami were denied a first victory at their new Nu Stadium for the second straight week as New York Red Bulls fought back to earn a 2–2 draw on Saturday. After Austin FC had held Miami in their opener, New York’s youthful squad became the latest visitors to frustrate Lionel Messi and company. The Red Bulls struck first after fifteen minutes when eighteen‑year‑old Julian Hall burst down the right and squared for Jorge Ruvalcalba to finish low past Dayne St. Clair.

Miami equalised on the stroke of half‑time through Mateo Silvetti, converting Rodrigo De Paul’s cross. The hosts then took control, and German Berterame put them ahead on fifty‑five minutes with a deflected strike. New York thought they had levelled through Robert Voloder, but VAR intervened. Their deserved equaliser arrived in the seventy‑seventh minute when Hall’s twisting run set up seventeen‑year‑old Adri Mehmeti. Ethan Horvath’s superb late save from a Messi free kick preserved the draw, leaving Miami third in the East.
