Monaco edge Marseille for seventh Ligue 1 win in a row

Monaco secured a seventh straight Ligue 1 win by beating Marseille 2-1 on Sunday, moving to within one point of the automatic Champions League positions. Aleksandr Golovin opened the scoring on the hour by turning in Jordan Teze’s cross, before Folarin Balogun doubled the advantage with a composed chip, marking his sixth consecutive match with a goal. Amine Gouiri struck late, but Monaco extended their unbeaten league run to 10 games, continuing a dramatic turnaround that began in January.

The principality club are now level with Marseille and just behind Lille, a remarkable shift after seven defeats in eight had left coach Sebastien Pocognoli under threat. They also climbed above Lyon, who remain winless in six following a 0-0 draw at Angers. Lorient drew with Paris FC, while Le Havre and Auxerre also finished level. Metz slipped nearer relegation, as PSG stayed on track for another title after beating Toulouse.
