Washington Wizards confirm D’Angelo Russell is not in franchise plans

D’Angelo Russell is unlikely to make his debut for the Wizards following his inclusion in the massive trade that brought Anthony Davis, Dante Exum, and Jaden Hardy to the capital. General Manager Will Dawkins confirmed that the former All-Star guard is not expected to report to Washington, leaving his professional future open to various scenarios. Dawkins addressed the uncertainty, stating, "We will figure out what makes sense for him and for us."

Russell, aged 29, joins Washington after a stint with the Dallas Mavericks where he appeared in 26 games. During that stretch, he recorded averages of 10.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 4 assists per contest. Despite these contributions, it appears his career will not continue in Washington. The franchise is prioritizing other options, suggesting that a buyout agreement or subsequent trade remains the probable outcome for the veteran playmaker.
