Roma defeat Stuttgart to close in on top eight finish

Roma secured a vital fourth consecutive Europa League victory, defeating Stuttgart at the Olimpico to climb into the top eight, a significant step toward direct round of 16 qualification. The match was defined by a brace from Niccolò Pisilli, one of Gian Piero Gasperini’s several lineup changes.

The contest was difficult. Stuttgart threatened first, with Jamie Leweling forcing a sharp diving save from Mile Svilar. However, Roma struck in the 40th minute when Matias Soulé found Pisilli, whose precise run and finish ignited the home crowd.

Stuttgart pushed back after halftime. Deniz Undav wasted a clear chance from close range, sending a Chris Führich free-kick high. Svilar later produced another crucial save to deny Demirović. In stoppage time, Pisilli sealed the win from a Paulo Dybala assist. With a league clash against Milan looming, Roma will conclude this phase away at Panathinaikos next Thursday, with their qualification now nearly secured.
