McLaren’s Pato O’Ward falls ill after FP1 in Mexico

After his performance in the Mexican Grand Prix, McLaren driver Pato O'Ward was sent to the Mexico City circuit's medical center. Following his appearance, the 26-year-old, who replaced Lando Norris during the first practice session, fell ill. Among the nine rookies that competed in FP1, the Mexican driver skipped the post-session media presentation and thereby missed his sponsors' commitments. He was brought to the hospital soon after he stepped out of the McLaren car's cockpit, according to later reports.

Since the McLaren team has not released a comment, it is presently uncertain what exactly caused the IndyCar driver's sickness. O'Ward made his first appearance in Formula One with the team in 2025. After finishing 30 laps during the practice, he had the 13th quickest time. Before being allowed to return to the McLaren squad, O'Ward was inspected by medical professionals for further observations.
