After Norris crashes, Verstappen takes the Saudi pole

Max Verstappen, the world champion, put Red Bull on pole position for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in stunning fashion after McLaren's Formula One leader Lando Norris crashed and qualified in 10th place on Saturday. Oscar Piastri of McLaren joined the four-time world champion in the first row for Sunday's night race in Jeddah, hoping to become the first Australian to top the rankings since Mark Webber in 2010.

At the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the victor has won thrice from the pole position in history, George Russell of Mercedes and Charles Leclerc of Ferrari will have a good chance to change history as they share the second place. Verstappen's teammate Yuki Tsunoda will start eighth, while Alpine's Pierre Gasly will start ninth. In a final burst of flying laps, Pole position changed hands three times, with Verstappen putting up a one-minute 27.294-second effort for his second pole in three races.
