The field begins to take shape

The 2023 World Championship field is slowly taking form as leagues from North America and EMEA to Korea, China, and all across the world finish off their most recent seasons. This marks the sharp end of the League of Legends competitive cycle. Since Invictus Gaming won the first-ever Chinese global champions in 2018, Worlds will return to South Korea this year.

This year's League of Legends championship looks drastically different thanks to Riot Games' approval of a number of format modifications, including the addition of best-of-threes, a Swiss-style stage, and more bracket-based play. The start date for Worlds 2023 has been set for October 10, which is a bit later than the customary September deadline. Before the event moves to Busan for the finals, the play-ins and group stages will take place there. The ultimate finals will be held in Seoul's Gocheok Sky Dome, which has a capacity of 17,000.
